Competitivity Platforms for Informatics Education

In the last few decades, an increasing number of national and international initiatives have harnessed the power of competitiveness to promote education in informatics and computer science. Among the longest-standing and most widespread initiatives, the International Olympiads in Informatics (since 1989, involving 109 nations) and the Bebras International Challenge on Informatics and Computational Thinking (since 2004, involving 75 nations) stand out in particular. To support the selection and preparation for such competitions, the different participating nations have individually developed multiple interactive educational tools (often available online), with similar aims and structures, albeit differentiated by individual peculiarities.

The aim of this workshop is to provide a meeting point between different communities active in Europe in the development of platforms for training in the field of computer sciences, with particular reference to gamification and competitiveness strategies. The goal of the event is facilitating the exchange of ideas and tools, and analysing and evaluating the use of the material developed for these platforms as a tool in computer science education. The workshop will be held in Turin, Italy on November 20th, 2023, will last the full day and include time for round tables and discussions. People active in the usage or development of competition-related tools, events and didactic material are invited to participate in the workshop, and possibly give a presentation of their work. There is no subscription fee for this event, and some limited travel support could be available for few participants in need (contact the organizators in this case). In order to participate, it is necessary to fill in the registration form below. Within the form you will be able to specify also whether you want to propose a talk or not. For further information on the conference location and organization see the Attending page, for a tentative program of the event (that will be updated as new talks are registered) see the Program page.
